Springfield Crimes

Hello Sleuths,

Anyone ever heard of the Tiptoe Bandit? Apparently this was a famous Springfield crime several years ago. I'll let Nancy tell more about it since she was a victim of this crime.

If anyone else was the victim of a crime and would like to share their experience, this is a good place to start. It also might give our members some story ideas!! If I did this right, this blog should only be for Sleuths' Ink members.

I have never heard of the Tiptoe Bandit. But would like to know more.

When I was a young girl and even into adulthood, I suffered from window peepers--for years, unfortunately. My dad used to chase the guy but could never catch him. We had a good, muddy footprint beneath the bathroom window (yuck) and some good DNA (double yuck--you can imagine) and called the cops. Never could pin it on the guy. There's more to tell but it gives me the creeps to think about it. Maybe I'll write about him and kill him off...

I guess this is why we should all be keeping journals!

Many years ago, when we lived in California, and my boys were young, I got a phone call. The guy said, "We have your husband. You can get him back for $40,000." I thought it was my brother playing a trick. I answered, "Yeah. Where would I get $40,000?" The guy answered, "You better, or we'll kill him!" Right then it stopped being a joke. I don't remember what he said after that. I know he talked on and on. I just wanted him to shut up and get off the phone so I could call my husband and see if he was OK.
When he finally hung up I called my husband and he was OK. I called the police. They wanted me to come to the station and make a statement. I was afraid to leave the house. (Shock setting in.) They sent a police car to my house for protection. I followed him to the station. (Who said the police don't have compassion?)
My husband's reaction: "What. They only wanted $40,000?"
