Captain Michael Spencer Penland , Retired. 1986-2013. Began career at 19 in the Vehicle Service Center. At 21 years old began career as a reserve deputy then w
ent full time on patrol in 1992. Spent his entire career in the Patrol division rising to the rank of Patrol Lt. Promoted to the rank of Captain in 2008 and assumed command of the Administration division retiring out in 2013.
Captain Jim Barber , Retired Years of service 1984-2008 Began his career in 1984 as a patrol reserve going into patrol full time in 1986. Rose to the rank of Patrol Lt in 1997 then promoted to Patrol Captain in 1997 over the entire Patrol division. Moved to the Criminal Investigation Division..CID in 2006 overseeing at operational control of the detectives. Transferred to the training division in 2008 before retiring that same year. Both Captain Barber and Captain Penland have remained close personal friends thru out their entire careers and have mentored most all of the current senior command level Deputy’s that currently oversee the Sheriff’s Office.
